一年ぶりの雨と休日

We decided to spring a surprise visit on an unsuspecting Terada-san (of CD store 雨と休日) last night. Armed with a bag of piping hot hara donuts as an evening snack gift, we burst into his delicate shop space all unannounced and i really had to apologise with a 「突然すみません」 seeing the look of surprise on his face!

雨と休日 (which literally translates to “Rain and Rest days”, pronounced as “Ame to Kyuujitsu”) stocks a very curated selection of music releases, which he lovingly and personally categorises by season and night/day. Since 2009, Ameto (short nickname for 雨と休日) has been a close partner of KITCHEN. LABEL, as we share a similar sensitivity and are surrounded by common friends and artists. Ameto has always been a small and personal one-man project, but that’s where its charm really lies.

Thank you for having “A Little Fable” there too!

After vising Terada-san we meet up with a Singaporean friend Darryl Wee, for dinner in the same neighbourhood Nishi-Ogikubo where he lives and knows so well. Surely enough, as he took us to an obscure diner underneath an apartment building, ironically named “Apartment Diner”. He was right when he said that the place he was taking us to felt like something out of the film 「かもめ食堂」.

Our last stop was Cafe Orchestra round the corner, a peculiar chai-and-curry cafe with a music policy that resonated really well with all of us… Chilly Gonzales was playing while we had a long chat about the bridge between Singapore and Tokyo, music and design. Darryl is a talented writer who has worked with us for a number of our releases, writing for Nº 4 HARUKA NAKAMURA – TWILIGHT, Nº 5 IRONOMI – SKETCH and Nº 6 FJORDNE – CHARLES RENDITION… i love everything he’s written for us and it was so good to catch up with an old friend.
